Last batch of Hospital Authority medical team members returns today

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

    The last batch of seven healthcare professionals of the Hospital Authority (HA) medical team to Sichuan, led by the Chief of Service (Accident & Emergency) of Queen Mary Hospital, Dr Tong Hon-kwan, returned to Hong Kong this afternoon (May 30).  Their return concluded the current stage of HA's medical support in Chengdu in the aftermath of the Sichuan earthquake disaster.

    The HA will continue to keep in close contact with relevant bureaux and departments of the Hong Kong Government and is ready to discuss and deploy medical support to the mainland health authorities should the need arise in future.

    Since May 15, 2008, the HA has deployed in five batches a medical team with over 50 healthcare professionals to Chengdu in Sichuan to provide medical support for the rescue operation in the earthquake disaster.  The team comprised doctors, nurses and allied health professionals in orthopaedics, anaesthesiology, operating theatre, accident & emergency, infection control, microbiology, intensive care unit, child psychiatry, clinical psychology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, prosthetic & orthotic, catering service, and central sterile supplies.
