The Government today (May 30) published a notice in the Gazette on a proposed Centre Street Escalator Link in the Western District to provide convenient pedestrian facility on Centre Street between Third Street and Bonham Road.
The proposed works include constructing covered escalators on Centre Street between Third Street and the access of Ying Wa Terrace; constructing a two-way covered escalator on Centre Street between the access of Ying Wa Terrace and Bonham Road; constructing stairlifts, a section of staircase and sections of footpaths associated to the proposed escalators and footpath covers on the footpaths adjacent to the proposed escalators; permanent closure of sections of the existing carriageway and staircase; temporary closure and reconstruction of sections of the existing carriageways and footpaths/staircases; and ancillary works including drainage, landscaping, electrical and mechanical works.
The works will begin in mid-2009 and are expected to be completed in 26 months.
The plan and scheme of the works are available for public inspection at the following government offices during office hours:
(i) Central and Western District Office, Public Enquiry Service Centre, Unit 5, Ground Floor, The Center, 99 Queen's Road Central; and
(ii) District Lands Office, Hong Kong West and South, 20th Floor, Southorn Centre, 130-150 Hennessy Road, Wan Chai.
Any person who wishes to object to the proposed works or the use, or both, should write to the Secretary for Transport and Housing, 16th Floor, Murray Building, Garden Road, Hong Kong, on or before July 29.
