HK residents in earthquake area back in touch with families

    All 101 Hong Kong residents who had lost contact with their families following the Sichuan earthquake, had been located by the Immigration Department or family members and all requests for assistance had been resolved, a government spokesman said today (May 29).

    The Government has received one report of a Hong Kong resident being injured.

    The Immigration Department has not received any new request for assistance in connection with the Sichuan earthquake in the past nine days.

    The Immigration Department has received 126 requests for assistance and 476 enquiries after the earthquake. Among the requests, there were 101 cases in which Hong Kong residents reportedly lost contact with their families, one injury and 24 other cases mainly involving the loss of travel documents or money.

    Those who require assistance may call the Immigration Department's 24-hour hotline at (852)1868.
