The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (May 29) pursued two claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $52,000 on behalf of 24 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
Excellence International Enterprises Limited trading as Pak Tak Seafood Hot Pot Restaurant and Hong Kong Hu Atie Cultural Media Company Limited, did not appear at today¡¦s hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $47,976.79 and $4,294.50, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees¡¦ MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay respective costs of $170 and $106.
