Hospital Authority medical team members return from Sichuan (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

    A group of 33 healthcare professionals of the Hospital Authority (HA) medical team to Sichuan, led by the Chief of Service (Accident & Emergency) of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital, Dr Lau Chor-chiu, returned to Hong Kong this afternoon (May 28). 

    The group was greeted at the airport by the Permanent Secretary for Food and Health (Health), Ms Sandra Lee; HA Chairman Mr Anthony Wu; HA Chief Executive Mr Shane Solomon; HA Director (Quality & Safety) Dr Leung Pak-yin; and HA Head of Human Resources Mr David Rossiter.
 
    Since May 15, the HA has deployed in five batches a medical team with over 50 healthcare professionals to Chengdu in Sichuan to provide medical support for the rescue operation in the earthquake disaster.  The team comprised doctors, nurses and allied health professionals in orthpaedics, anesthesiology, operating theatre, accident & emergency, infection control, microbiology, intensive care unit, child psychiatry, clinical psychology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, prosthetic & orthotic, catering service, and central sterile supplies.

    At present, seven healthcare professionals of the HA medical team remain in Chengdu to continue the medical support service, under the leadership of Dr Tong Hon-kwan, Consultant in Accident & Emergency of Queen Mary Hospital.
