Government announces new chairman of Advisory Committee on Teacher Education and Qualifications

    The Government today (May 27) announced that the Chief Executive had appointed Mr Cheung Pak-hong as chairman of the Advisory Committee on Teacher Education and Qualifications (ACTEQ) for a term of two years from June 1, 2008, to May 31, 2010.

    The Secretary for Education, Mr Michael Suen said, "Mr Cheung is a prominent educator with rich experience in both the secondary and tertiary sectors. His strong commitment to education is demonstrated by his dedicated service at the Council of the Hong Kong Institute of Education and the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority. He also served as a member of ACTEQ".

    Mr Suen also took the opportunity to thank the outgoing chairman, Professor Cheng Kai-ming.

    "During the past six years, Professor Cheng has inspired ACTEQ with his vision and energy.  Under his distinguished leadership, ACTEQ has been playing a prominent role in advising the Government on issues and policies related to teacher education and development," Mr Suen said.

    Mr Suen also paid tribute to the four outgoing members, Mr Chen Wei-on, Mrs Lam Lee Tuen-yee, Professor Lo Mun-ling and Rev Yuen Tin-yau, for their valuable contributions to the work of ACTEQ.

    ACTEQ has been conducting a comprehensive and holistic review of teachers' professional development including initial teacher education, induction for beginning teachers and in-service teachers' continuing professional development.
