The Immigration Department has not (up to 5pm today, May 26)received any new request for assistance since May 20 in connection with the Sichuan earthquake.
A government spokesman said there was one remaining case of a request for assistance, involving a male Hong Kong resident who was working on the Mainland.
The Immigration Department has received 126 requests for assistance and 474 enquiries since the earthquake. Among the requests, there are 101 cases in which Hong Kong residents reportedly lost contact with their families, one injury and 24 other cases mainly involving the loss of travel documents or money.
The Immigration Department will continue to work with the Office of the HKSARG in Beijing and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Chengdu to maintain close liaison with Mainland authorities to follow up on the cases and render all practical assistance to Hong Kong residents in need.
