Update on assistance to HK people affected by Sichuan earthquake (as at 11am)
******************************************************

A Government spokesman today (May 22) said that up to 11am, the Immigration Department had not received any new requests for assistance in connection with the Sichuan earthquake.

There are three remaining cases, involving three male Hong Kong residents, in which their Hong Kong families have failed to get in touch with them. The men are either working or travelling on the
Mainland.

The Immigration Department has so far received 126 requests for assistance and 462 enquiries since the earthquake. Among the requests, there are 101 cases in which Hong Kong residents reportedly lost contact with their families, one injury and 24 other cases mainly involving the loss of travel documents or money.

The Immigration Department will continue to work with the Office of the HKSARG in Beijing and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Chengdu to maintain close liaison with Mainland authorities to follow up on the cases and render all practical assistance to Hong Kong residents in need.

Those who require assistance may call the Immigration Department's 24-hour hotline at (852)1868.
