The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
A medical team deployed by the Hospital Authority (HA) to Chengdu in Sichuan left this morning (May 19) to provide medical service support for treatment of the injuries at the earthquake. HA Chief Executive Mr Shane Solomon and Director (Quality and Safety), Dr Leung Pak-yin, farewelled team members at the airport. The medical team, led by the Chief of Service (Accident and Emergency) of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital, Dr Lau Chor-chiu, comprises doctors, nurses and allied health professionals in emergency medicine, orthopaedics, anaesthesiology and infection control. At present, 19 healthcare professionals in a HA medical team are serving in Chengdu to support the medical rescue operation.
