Immigration Department's response to Sichuan earthquake
*******************************************************

Regarding the serious earthquake in Sichuan, a spokesman for the Immigration Department today (May 13) said, "The department has so far received 14 cases of Hong Kong people seeking help and 25 cases of enquiries. Most of them involved cases in which family members in Hong Kong failed to get in touch with their relatives in the Mainland.

"The Immigration Department will maintain close liaison with the Mainland authorities through the Office of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China in Beijing (Beijing Office) to obtain more information on the situation and render all possible assistance to Hong Kong residents in need. Those who require assistance may call the Immigration Department's 24-hour hotline at (852) 1868."
