The Home Affairs Bureau today (May 6) announced the setting up of the Public Libraries Advisory Committee to advise the Government on the overall development strategy of Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL).
With the successful completion of its two-year tenure, the Committee on Libraries recommended in its report in May, 2007, the setting up of an advisory body on the overall development strategy of public libraries. To take forward this recommendation, the Public Libraries Advisory Committee has been set up to advise the Government on the following:
(a) The formulation of strategies and measures for the development of library facilities and services to achieve the broader cultural mission of HKPL;
(b) The role, functions and management of the Hong Kong Central Library; and
(c) The encouragement of community support and partnership with different sectors in promoting reading, lifelong learning and literary arts.
The appointments will be for two years from May 1, 2008, to April 30, 2010. Members appointed include professionals, academics, community personalities and government representatives.
