Eight public hospitals participate in rescue of traffic accident victims (With document)

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

Regarding the traffic accident at Sai Kung this morning (May 1), the spokesperson for the Hospital Authority (HA) gave the following information concerning the provision of emergency treatment to the injuries at public hospitals:

    The Hospital Authority (HA) received notification from the Fire Services Control Centre today (May 1) at 9:14 am to prepare for the admission of a large number of victims due to a bus accident.

    In accordance with our standard procedures, HA immediately notified the Accident & Emergency (A&E) Department of eight public hospitals, viz. Tseung Kwan O Hospital, United Christian Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital, Kwong Wah Hospital, Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital, North District Hospital and Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital to activate Civil Disaster Contingency Plan. The hospitals immediately made the necessary arrangements and deployment to get ready for receiving and providing emergency treatment to the injuries.

    In close collaboration with the Fire Services Department, the HA has dispatched two Medical Teams comprising two doctors and two nurses from United Christian Hospital and Tseung Kwan O Hospital to the accident site to provide urgent treatment, while a Medical Control Officer was also sent by United Christian Hospital to perform on-site triage and coordinate with the receiving hospitals.

    Totally there were 48 victims delivered to eight hospitals. Unfortunately three victims were certified dead upon arrival and one victim died in the hospital despite active resuscitation. Detailed breakdown of the number and condition of the victims is attached and their condition will be updated at regular intervals.

    The HA spokesperson expressed deep condolences to the victims of the accident and reassured that every effort has been and would continue to be made to provide the best possible clinical as well as psycho-social treatment to the injuries to facilitate their early recovery.
