FS speaks at the Celebration of Public Art Hong Kong & "Hooves On The Move" Sculpture Debut Ceremony (English only) (with photos/video)
************************************************************

Following is the speech by the Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, at the Celebration of Public Art Hong Kong & "Hooves On The Move" Sculpture Debut Ceremony, Hong Kong Arts Centre, this evening (April 30) (English only).

Cissy , ladies and gentlemen,

    Good afternoon.

It is my great pleasure to join you for the debut ceremony of "Hooves on the Move".

The name conjures up a wonderful image of Hong Kong's equine links.  Today marks the 100-day countdown to the opening of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.  The next 100 days promise to be particularly exciting for us all in Hong Kong, as we enter the final stretch as a co-host city. Staging the Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian Events is, indeed, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Hong Kong. We are determined, and we are ready, to put on a good show.

The Olympic Games embody the ideals of unlimited human potential and friendship across the world through competition in sports. It would not have developed into such a successful movement without the enthusiastic participation of people from all walks of life. The Government and our partners are in full swing in engaging the entire community in celebrating the Olympic spirit. I believe Hong Kong's core values embody this spirit. Values such as the "can do" attitude of our people and commitment to fair play, solidarity and mutual care. With the Beijing Olympic slogan "One World One Dream" in mind, I am sure Hong Kong people can contribute to the continued success of the Olympic movement.

I wish to thank the Public Art Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Arts Centre for conceiving this project. "Hooves On the Move" is a perfect demonstration of how public art can integrate with sport.  This "cross-over" also highlights our creativity as well as our vitality in the celebration of the Olympic Equestrian Events.

Ladies and gentlemen, with only 100 days left to the start of this year's Olympic Games, and with the Hong Kong leg of the torch relay taking place this Friday, the excitement is building up considerably. This exhibition is a fitting complement leading up to the actual event in August.

Thank you very much and have a good time.
