Qualifications Framework to be formally launched on May 5 (with photos)
**********************************************************

The formal launch of the Qualifications Framework (QF) and the related legislation on May 5 marked a milestone in its development, Secretary for Education, Mr Michael Suen, said today (April 26) at the QF launch ceremony.

"The QF is a cross-sectoral hierarchy that systematically categorises qualifications obtainable from education, vocational training and continuing education sectors. Only locally accredited qualifications which are quality-assured can be recognised by the QF," Mr Suen said.

"I hope that employees in different trades will make use of the QF to formulate their blueprints for further study for self-enhancement. Employers can make references to the QF for staff training to enhance their organisations' competitiveness."

The launch ceremony was held at Olympian City 2. Other officiating guests were Legislative Councillor Mr Tam Yiu-Chung, Chairman of the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications Dr York Liao, and Chairman of the Joint Quality Review Committee Professor TS Chan.

With the implementation of the QF, people can search for courses of different study areas on the Qualifications Register (QR) website (www.hkqr.gov.hk) to select the appropriate study courses for them. The QR is a web-based database on learning programmes, qualifications and course providers. Only quality-assured qualifications listed in the QR is recognised by the QF.

The Education Bureau will promote the QF and the QR through a series of publicity activities including radio and TV APIs, TV programme, roving exhibitions and leaflets.

The TV programme on the Qualifications Framework consists of 10 two-minute episodes and two 10-minute episodes which will be broadcast on ATV-Home between May 5 and 17. The programme will introduce the development and other information of the QF to the audience through a drama and interviews.

The first roving exhibition on the QF will be held at Olympic City 2 between today and Wednesday (April 30). The roving exhibitions will be staged at seven MTR stations in the following two months. Details of the broadcast schedule of the TV programme and the roving exhibitions are attached.
