Immigration Officers attend overseas exchange study programme (With photo)
****************************************************

Six Immigration Officers tomorrow (April 20) will leave for the Republic of Korea to take part in an exchange programme.

The six officers, Miss Jeanie Chan Lok-yee, Mr Lo Wai-to, Mr Ho Kin-keung, Miss Cheung Wing-yan, Ms Chan Kwok-yee and Mr Chan Tat-ki met with the Director of Immigration, Mr Simon Peh Yun-lu, before their departure to attend a two-week exchange programme with the Korean Immigration authorities.

The objective of the programmes is to enhance mutual understanding and to strengthen the co-operation between the two authorities in immigration-related affairs such as combating the use of forged documentation and irregular migration.

The six officers will visit Hwasung Detention Centre, Incheon Airport Immigration Office, the headquarters of the Korea Immigration Service, Korea Minting & Security Printing Corporation as well as the Seoul Immigration Office.

They will also attend a week of seminars on Immigration Service affairs arranged by Korean Immigration. The seminars will give the officers a better understanding of Korean immigration policy, intelligence work, anti-forgery measures and the development of the Korean Immigration Bureau.

Under the exchange programme, six officers from Korean Immigration attended an exchange study programme in Hong Kong hosted by the Immigration Department in November last year.

In his briefing before the officers' departure, Mr Peh said that due to the growing complexity of immigration work, members of the service needed to be more vigilant and alert.

He said he expected the study visit would enhance staff quality and provide a good opportunity for the officers to gain a better understanding of the work of overseas Immigration authorities.
