Customs officers of the Shek Chung Au Check Post in the Sha Tau Kok Frontier Closed Area yesterday (March 18) seized 55.15 kilogrammes of illicit pork.
Shortly before 6am, Customs officers intercepted a public light bus leaving from Sha Tau Kok Village. They subsequently arrested a 52-year-old woman on the bus for allegedly bringing into Hong Kong three bags of pork without a valid health certificate, weighing 55.15 kilogrammes.
The case has been referred to the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department for follow-up action.
Under the Imported Game, Meat and Poultry Regulations of the Public Health and Municipal Services Ordinance, it is an offence to bring into Hong Kong any meat and poultry without a valid health certificate. The maximum penalty is a fine of $50,000 and an imprisonment for six months.
