Senior Counsel Appointed

The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:

    The Honourable Chief Justice Andrew Kwok-nang Li is pleased to announce today (March 18) the appointment of five Senior Counsel of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.  They are:

Mr Mohan Tarachand Bharwaney
Mr Lee Shiu-keung, Robert
Ms Charlotte Elizabeth Ann Draycott
Mr Anthony Kenneth Houghton
Mr Lam Wan-ho, Godfrey

    The appointments are made by the Chief Justice under section 31A of the Legal Practitioners Ordinance.

    The appointments will take effect from the date of the Instrument of Appointment, which will be executed on April 26, 2008, when the ceremonial proceedings will be held at 10am in Court No. 7 in the High Court.

    The biographical notes of the newly appointed Senior Counsel are as follows:

Mr Mohan Tarachand Bharwaney

    Mr Mohan Tarachand Bharwaney, aged 54, obtained his LLB at the University of Hong Kong and took the Bar Final Examinations at the Inns of Court School of Law.  He was admitted to the English Bar in 1977 and the Hong Kong Bar in 1978.  His field of practice is mainly in personal injuries.  He is member of the Barristers Disciplinary Tribunal Panel and Chairman of the Buildings Appeal Tribunal Panel.

Mr Lee Shiu-keung, Robert

    Mr Lee Shiu-keung, Robert, aged 51, obtained his LLB and Master of Laws at the University of London, and PCLL at the University of Hong Kong.  He was admitted to the Hong Kong Bar in 1988.  His field of practice is mainly in criminal law.  He is Head of the Appeals and Narcotics Policy Co-ordination Section of the Department of Justice.

Ms Charlotte Elizabeth Ann Draycott

    Ms Charlotte Elizabeth Ann Draycott, aged 50, obtained her LLB at King's College, University of London and took the Bar Final Examinations at the Inns of Court School of Law.  She was admitted to the English Bar in 1981 and the Hong Kong Bar in 1988.  She is engaged mainly in the field of criminal law.

Mr Anthony Kenneth Houghton

    Mr Anthony Kenneth Houghton, aged 53, obtained his LLB at the University of London.  He was admitted to the English Bar in 1988 and the Hong Kong Bar in 1989.  His field of practice is mainly in construction and arbitration.  He is member of the Special Committee on Alternative Dispute Resolution of the Hong Kong Bar Association.

Mr Lam Wan-ho, Godfrey

    Mr Lam Wan-ho, Godfrey, aged 39, obtained his BA at the University of Cambridge, Master of Laws at the University of Washington, and PCLL at the University of Hong Kong.  He was admitted to the Hong Kong Bar in 1993.  His practice is mainly in the civil area.  He is member of the High Court Rules Committee and the Standing Committee on Company Law Reform.
