The Hong Kong Committee for Pacific Economic Co-operation (HKCPEC) and the Trade and Industry Department (TID) will jointly hold a seminar on "Environmental Protection ¡V a challenge or an opportunity?" on March 26 (Wednesday).
The global change to environment has increasingly become a threat to mankind. To ensure sustainable development, different sectors of the community have to take concerted efforts to protect the environment. In the process, traders and manufacturers, particularly the small and medium enterprises, may face different challenges. The speakers of the seminar will share with the audience ideas and experiences which could help better equip traders and manufacturers to face the challenges and explore how creativity may turn these challenges into business opportunities.
The speakers of the seminar will include the Executive Director of the Hong Kong Productivity Council Mr Wilson Fung Wing-yip, Managing Director of Dunwell Enviro-Tech (Holdings) Ltd Mr Daniel M Cheng, Managing Director of Fook Tin Technologies Limited Dr John Chai Yat-chiu, Head of Strategy Development of Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited Mr Sham Man-fai, and Vice-President, Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility Asia Pacific Region of Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited Mr Barry Kwong Man-cheong. They will share their experience in the pursuit of improved environmental performance from different perspectives. The Chairman of the HKCPEC Professor Edward Chen Kwan-yiu will give welcoming and closing remarks.
The seminar is organised with the support of the Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong, the Federation of Hong Kong Industries and the Hong Kong Productivity Council.
The seminar will be held on March 26 from 10.30am to 12.35pm at South Pacific Hotel Hong Kong, 23 Morrison Hill Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong. It will be conducted in Cantonese. Admission is free.

PECC is a non-governmental organisation founded in 1980 with the objective of serving as a regional forum for co-operation and policy co-ordination to promote economic development in the Asia-Pacific region. PECC is tripartite in nature comprising representatives from the academic, business and government sectors. HKCPEC was established in 1990 to advise the Government on matters relating to HKC's participation in PECC. It is currently chaired by Professor Chen and comprises 13 members from the academic, business and government sectors.
Currently, PECC has 26 members, of which 22 are full members representing the economies of Australia; Brunei Darussalam; Canada; Chile; China; Colombia; Ecuador; Hong Kong, China; Indonesia; Japan; Korea; Malaysia; Mexico; New Zealand; the Pacific Islands Forum; Peru; the Philippines; Singapore; Chinese Taipei; Thailand; the United States; and Vietnam; two associate members representing France (Pacific Territories) and Mongolia; and two institutional members which are the Pacific Trade and Development Conference (PAFTAD) and Pacific Basin Economic Council (PBEC).
