Renowned mainland troupes to perform Yue opera in April

    The Xiaobaihua Yue Opera Troupe of Shaoxing and Xiaobaihua Troupe of Hangzhou Yue Opera Theatre will give five performances in Hong Kong next month (April).

    National class one and two performers, including Wu Fenghua, Wu Suying, Chen Fei, Xie Qunying, Chen Xiaohong and Xu Ming, will perform five well-known works in "Classics from the Traditional Yue Opera Repertoire". Details of the star-studded performances are as follows:

    Founded in 1986, the Xiaobaihua Yue Opera Troupe of Shaoxing has a well-balanced cast which performs in singing, acting, recitation and acrobatics. Its productions have won many national awards. Besides giving regular performances in the Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai regions, the troupe has toured Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand and Singapore to popular acclaim.

    The Xiaobaihua Troupe of Hangzhou Yue Opera Theatre has a history of more than 40 years. It boasts a rich repertoire that spans recent works as well as traditional works. It has a cast that represents different artistic schools of opera and is capable of performing all the stock roles. Many of the cast are winners of major awards in national and provincial competitions.

    "Classics from the Traditional Yue Opera Repertoire" is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. The lyrics and dialogue will have Chinese and English subtitles.

    Tickets for the series of performances are now available at URBTIX outlets. Senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients may have 50% off (limited quotas for students and CSSA recipients on a first-come, first-served basis).
