The public is reminded that the increase in the flagfall fares by $1 for urban and New Territories (NT) taxis will be effective from midnight on February 28, 2008.
A Transport Department spokesman also reminds the taxi drivers that under the law, they are required to display the Taxi Fare Table showing the new scale of fares inside the compartment of the taxis from midnight on February 28, 2008.
"Before the re-calibration of the existing taximeters in the taxis to record the new scale of fares, taxi drivers are also required to display the fare conversion table issued by the Transport Department in a prominent position inside the taxis for passengers¡¦ reference.
"As for the taxi fare receipt, if the new fare is not shown on the printed receipt, the taxi driver should write down the new fare in manuscript on the receipt before issuing it to the passenger," the spokesman added.
