New member appointed to Legal Aid Services Council

    The Government announced today (February 22) the appointment of a new member to the Legal Aid Services Council.

    The Chief Executive has appointed Mr Michael Delaney, a barrister, for the period from March 1, 2008, to August 31, 2008, in place of Mr Andrew Bruce, who has resigned.

    Section 5(1) of the Legal Aid Services Council Ordinance (Cap. 489) stipulates that the council shall consist of a lay chairman, four lay members, two solicitors and two barristers, all to be appointed by the Chief Executive. The Director of Legal Aid is an ex-officio member of the council.

    The council is responsible for overseeing the administration of the legal aid services provided by the Legal Aid Department and advising the Government on legal aid policy.
