Basic Law video production award presentation tomorrow

The following is issued on behalf of the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education:

    Fifteen teams will compete tomorrow (February 23) in the final round of the Basic Law Video Production Contest jointly organised by the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education (CPCE) and the Home Affairs Bureau (HAB).

    The contest has three categories ¡V Primary School, Secondary School and Tertiary Education and Open and the preliminary round was held last month. The 15 teams selected for the final will compete for the winner and the first and second runners-up of each category as well as the Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Sound Design, Best Video on Website, Best Actress, Best Actor and Best Video awards.

    The video production contest is co-organised with the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau, Department of Justice,  Education Bureau and Radio Television Hong Kong, and assisted by the Hong Kong Film Art Association as the technical consultant.

    Since 2004, the CPCE and HAB have been organising annual events to promote the Basic Law. For 2007-08, a video production contest has been held to promote the Basic Law in a livelier manner so participants can ¡§Learn the Basic Law, Know your Rights and Duties¡¨.

    After a launch ceremony last October, three workshops have also been organised, in which members of the Basic Law Promotion Steering Committee, Ms Maria Tam and Mr Samuel Yung, as well as Prof Benny Tai of the University of Hong Kong, shared their views of the Basic Law with participants.

    The award presentation of the video production contest will be held at 7.30pm tomorrow at the Theatre of the Hong Kong City Hall. CPCE Chairman Dr Pang King-chee, Deputy Secretary for Home Affairs Mr Donald Tong, Chairman of Hong Kong Film Art Association Mr Pooh Ho, and Event Ambassador Ms Shirley Yeung will be the officiating guests.
