Shatin Hospital reports Norovirus cases

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

    The spokesperson of Shatin Hospital (SH) made the following announcement today (February 21):

    Five male patients (aged 57-78) of a Medicine & Geriatric ward in SH have presented with diarrhoea or vomiting symptoms since February 14.  Appropriate tests were arranged for the patients.  The Norovirus tests of three patients were positive.  Among the patients, one has been transferred to the Prince of Wales Hospital for further treatment and the remaining patients are being treated under isolation in SH.  All of them are in stable condition. 

    Thorough cleansing and disinfection have been carried out in the ward.  Infection control measures have already been enhanced.  There will be no new admissions or visits to the ward for the time being.  All patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

    The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
