Exhibition on maritime service careers opening tomorrow

    Young people and job-seekers wishing to explore career and education opportunities in Hong Kong's maritime service industry are welcome to visit the booth of the Hong Kong Maritime Industry Council at the Education and Careers Expo 2008 in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from tomorrow (February 21) to Sunday (February 24).

    Organised by the Maritime Industry Council to promote the professional image of the maritime industry, the exhibition features various maritime service sectors in Hong Kong, including ship finance, ship brokering, ship management, marine insurance, maritime arbitration and maritime law, as well as information on vacancies in the Marine Department.

    The MIC exhibition highlights the opportunities and prospects of careers in the maritime industry as well as the various maritime-related education programmes offered by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Vocational Training Council's Maritime Services Training Centre, and the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Training (Tsing Yi).

    It also introduces training incentive schemes such as the Hong Kong Maritime Scholarship, Sea-going Training Incentive Scheme, and Ship Repair Training Incentive Scheme.

    In addition to the exhibition, a sea-going career seminar will be held on Friday afternoon (February 22).  A representative from the Maritime Professional Promotion Federation will give information on the job market and prospects for seafarers.  Sea-going cadets will share their on-board experience with participants.

    The Education and Careers Expo 2008 is organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council at Hall 5, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Harbour Road, Hong Kong from February 21 to 24.  Admission is free.
