Castle Peak Hospital diarrhoea cases update

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

    Regarding a male Intellectual Disability Ward of Castle Peak Hospital in which some patients had presented with diarrhoea symptoms, the hospital spokesman announced the following update today (February 19).

    Two more patients (aged 21 and 24) of the concerned ward have presented with diarrhoea symptoms today.  Appropriate tests had been arranged for the patients and their specimens were positive to Norovirus.  Patients are being treated under isolation.  Up to now, there are five patients and one staff member presented with diarrhoea symptoms, all in stable condition.

    Admission to the ward has been suspended while discharge from the ward remains normal. Restricted visiting policy is imposed. Patients' relatives have been informed about the situation. Infection control measures of the ward concerned have already been stepped up. All other patients and the staff in the ward are under close surveillance.

    The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
