The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (February 6) pursued six claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $130,000 on behalf of 16 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
None of the six defendants - Brilliant Smart Engineering Limited, Mok Cheuk Yam formerly trading as Lee Tong Electric & Metal Factory, Spotting Media Limited, King Dynasty Corporation Limited trading as People's Food Centre, Universal Investment Enterprises Limited trading as Apple Snooker Club and Noble Time Holdings Limited trading as Apple Snooker Club - appeared at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $49,739.31, $30,495, $28,054.49, $19,071.91, $9,875.5 and $183.6,being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $160, $300, $186, $256, $178 and $146.
Brilliant Smart Engineering Limited previously pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistracy to seven counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and was fined $18,000.
