Sponsored by the Mission Hills Group, Mission Hills Golf Club and Hsin Chong Construction Group, and co-ordinated by the Home Affairs Bureau, the Lunar New Year fireworks display will light up the sky over Victoria Harbour at 8pm on Friday (February 8).
A total of 40,000 firing shells will be discharged in the display from four barges in a 23-minute extravaganza consisting of 10 scenes. The sponsorship amount is about $7 million.
Highlights of the display include the opening scene packed with colourful displays of festive celebration, symbolising a prosperous year ahead; the fifth scene lighting up the sky with the Chinese characters for "Beijing" and "2008"; the seventh scene celebrating the hosting of the Olympic equestrian events in Hong Kong; and the last scene, at which the fireworks display reaches its climax, with fast and rhythmic firing of shells to create a stunning visual impact.
The display can be seen from many vantage points on both sides of the harbour, including Tsim Sha Tsui, Mid-levels, Central District, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay and Hung Hom Bypass.
To increase their enjoyment, viewers are invited to tune in to Radio Television Hong Kong Radio Four (FM 97.6 - 98.9) for synchronised music.
People are urged to help keep public areas clean and to respect public property. They should also show consideration to others to help make the event a safe one.
