More emergency relief funds approved for Mainland snowstorm victims
************************************************************

The Government has accepted the advice of the Disaster Relief Fund Advisory Committee and approved three grants from the Disaster Relief Fund totalling $13.43 million to three relief agencies to undertake relief projects for snowstorm victims on the Mainland.

These grants are further to a disbursement of $218 million made earlier for three provincial/municipal governments and the Hong Kong Red Cross to provide emergency relief to snowstorm victims in seven provinces/municipalities. It takes the total value of grants for snowstorm victims on the Mainland to $231.43 million.

Announcing the grants today (February 5), a government spokesman said that the committee hoped the grants - one of $7.76 million to The Salvation Army for relief projects in Anhui and Hunan, one of $5 million to World Vision Hong Kong for relief projects in Anhui, Guangxi, Hunan and Jiangxi, and the last one of $0.67 million to Oxfam Hong Kong for relief projects in Gansu - would help provide relief to snowstorm victims in the areas.

"To ensure that the money will be used for the designated purposes, the relief agency has been asked to submit an evaluation report and audited accounts on the use of the grant after the relief project has been completed," the spokesman said.
