The Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, this morning (February 5) visited a nursing home for the elderly in Shau Kei Wan and two senior citizen households in Sai Wan Ho to get a better understanding of the needs and livelihoods of old-aged people.
Mr Tsang's first stop was the Scenic Resort Nursing Home in Oi Tung Estate, Shau Kei Wan which is managed by the St James' Settlement and provides cares and accommodation for 120 elderly people.
Attendants showed Mr Tsang various health care equipment and briefed him on the nursing home's daily operation.
Mr Tsang chatted with the elderly to understand their needs. He also talked to those who were participating in a calligraphy and painting class.
Mr Tsang then visited two singleton elderly households in Sai Wan Ho. Currently, they receive services from the schemes of the "Integrated Home Care Services" and the "Support Teams for the Elderly" run by the Social Welfare Department.
The schemes provide elders with care and assistance according to their individual needs so that they can live actively in the community.
Mr Tsang chatted with them, listened carefully to their needs and wished them a happy Lunar New Year of Rat.
