¡@¡@Renowned Erhu player and composer Zhu Changyao will perform in Hong Kong next month (March) with Wang Kwong Chinese Orchestra under the baton of guest conductor Ho Man-chuen.
¡@¡@The programme will feature beautiful works of Jiangnan music created or arranged by Zhu to express the charm of the region. They include "Gongs and Drums in Celebration", "Spring Scenery of Jiangnan", "Tune of Sunan", "Vitality of Spring in May", "Yearning", "Say Love", "Happy New year (the ensemble of traditional instruments)", "Sketch of Water Village", "Ba Duan Jing (the ensemble of traditional instruments)", "Excerpts from Butterfly Lovers" and "Tune of Yangzhou". Other famous pieces include "Toward Brightness", "A Beautiful Night" and "The Moon Mirrored In The Erquan Spring".
¡@¡@Zhu is an erhu maestro, composer, national first-class artist, and the vice-general manager and chief inspector of arts in Jiangsu Performing Arts Group. He is also the director of China Musician Association, the standing director of China National Orchestral Academy, the vice- chairman of China Erhu Academy, the vice-chairman of Jiangsu Literature and Art Joint Association and chairman of Jiangsu Musician Association. Zhu has been hailed as "National treasure of the world" and "One of the world's most excellent players of stringed instruments" and has visited many countries to give performance or speech.
¡@¡@Guest Conductor Ho Man-chuen is a versatile percussionist and trained under Xia Feiyun of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Ho has collaborated with famous music virtuosi Hao Yuqi, Xiao Baiyong and Min Huifen. Being the conductor of the Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra, Ho has led the orchestra on concert tour to the Mainland, the United States, Canada, Malaysia and Singapore. He is currently the Music Officer of the Chinese Music Section, conductor of Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra and Youth Chinese Orchestra of Music Office, the instructor of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and a resident conductor of the Academy Chinese Orchestra.
¡@¡@Founded in 1962, the Wang Kwong Chinese Orchestra is a long-established and active amateur Chinese orchestral group in Hong Kong. The orchestra was among the first to initiate the collaboration between Hong Kong amateur groups and Mainland artists to perform in Hong Kong. It gave two concerts in 2003 to celebrate the orchestra's 40th anniversary.
¡@¡@Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, ¡§The Sincerity of Jiangnan: Wang Kwong Chinese Orchestra in concert with Zhu Changyao¡¨ will be staged at 8pm on March 2 (Sunday) at Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall. Tickets priced at $80, $110 and $140 are now available at URBTIX outlets. Senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients are entitled to 50% off (limited quotas for students and CSSA recipients on a first-come, first-served basis).
