The following five reports on the annual economic surveys for 2006 covering various sectors of the economy have been published by the Census and Statistics Department (C&SD):
(i) Report on 2006 Annual Survey of Industrial Production;
(ii) Report on 2006 Annual Survey of Building, Construction and Real Estate Sectors;
(iii) Report on 2006 Annual Survey of Wholesale, Retail and Import and Export Trades, Restaurants and Hotels;
(iv) Report on 2006 Annual Survey of Transport and Related Services; and
(v) Report on 2006 Annual Surveys of Storage, Communication, Banking, Financing, Insurance and Business Services.
These reports contain a wide range of statistics on the operating characteristics and structure of various economic sectors for 2006, including:
* number of establishments;
* number of persons engaged;
* sales of goods, business receipts and other income;
* compensation of employees;
* operating expenses;
* gross surplus;
* value added; and
* gross additions to fixed assets.
Apart from statistics relating to 2006, the reports also contain summary statistics for 2004 and 2005 to facilitate reference and comparison.
The statistics in the reports are complementary to those relatively timely but simpler statistics on the current economic situation as provided by the relevant quarterly or monthly surveys. When analysed in combination, these statistics can provide data users with a more comprehensive understanding of the latest economic situation and development of various economic sectors.
These five reports are now available for download (in PDF format) free of charge at the website of C&SD (www.censtatd.gov.hk/products_and_services/products/publications/index.jsp). Purchase of the print versions can be done in the following ways:
(i) Purchase in person at the Publications Unit of the C&SD (Address: 19/F Wanchai Tower, 12 Harbour Road, Wan Chai; Tel.: 2582 3025). The selling prices are given in the attached table.
(ii) Complete a mail order form which is available for downloading at the website of the C&SD (www.censtatd.gov.hk/products_and_services/other_services/provision_of_stat/mail_ordering_of_publications/index.jsp) and return it to C&SD.
(iii) Purchase online at the Government Bookstore of the Information Services Department (www.bookstore.gov.hk).
