Update on Kowloon Hospital Norovirus cases

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding the cases of Norovirus infection in a rehabilitation ward of Kowloon Hospital (KH), the hospital spokesperson announced the following update today (January 26).

     Today there are four more female patients (aged 77 to 95) of the ward concerned presented with vomiting and diarrhoea symptoms. Since January 23, 2008, a total of 13 patients (2 male, 11 female, aged 75 to 95) of the ward had presented with vomiting and diarrhoea symptoms. Test results of seven patients were found positive to Norovirus. All concerned patients are treated in isolation and in stable condition.

     Infection control measures of the ward concerned have already been enhanced. There will be no admission to the ward for the time being. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Center for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
