The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (January 25) pursued one claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $400 on behalf of three employees, who were owed MPF surcharges by their employer.
The defendant, Mo Chun Yu formerly trading as Chun Chun, did not appear at today's hearing. In his absence, the adjudicator ordered him to pay the MPFA the sum of $414.92, being surcharges payable to default contributions in arrears.
The amount awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as it is received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the defendant to pay $130 as costs in respect of the claim.
