SLW welcomes consultation document on Employees Retraining Board's strategic review
***********************************************************

The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, has welcomed the release today (January 24) of the consultation document on the strategic review of the Employees Retraining Board.

Mr Cheung said, ¡§The growth model of our economy has changed.  The need for training and self-improvement is no longer confined to our low-skilled, low-educated and middle-aged workers.  The Government regards training as a long-term social investment, and our training policy needs to be adjusted to meet the challenge of the day.

"I am pleased that the Employees Retraining Board has completed the strategic review on its future direction, and set out comprehensive proposals on how the board should expand the scope and enhance the quality of its training and retraining services.

"I look forward to the board taking on new strategic role and responsibilities and offering more comprehensive and diversified training and retraining services for the local workforce.  I encourage all stakeholders to express their views on the consultation document.¡¨

The consultation on the strategic review will last until the end of March.  During the consultation period, the board will organise consultation sessions to collect the views of stakeholders on the review proposals.
