The outstanding achievements of the local information and communications technology (ICT) industry were recognised at the presentation of the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2007 tonight (January 21).

PCCW Limited (PCCW Mobile Infotainment Platform) received the Award of the Year, the most prestigious award, from the Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, the officiating guest at the presentation ceremony. Mr Tsang also presented Grand Awards to winners of seven categories, from which the Award of the Year was chosen.

Addressing the ceremony, Mr Tsang said, "The awards received 330 high quality entries this year. Such overwhelming response not only demonstrates the innovativeness and creativity of our ICT sector, but also echoes our strength as a vibrant digital city that strives for excellence.

"It is also encouraging to know that the participating entries are from a diverse range of entities, from both public and private sectors, from large enterprises to smaller ones, from non-government organisations to individuals.  All are well deserved for their outstanding achievements."

Mr Tsang stressed that the Government was committed to helping Hong Kong's economy to improve its competitiveness in an era of relentless globalisation, noting that the Commerce and Economic Bureau has recently published the "2008 Digital 21 Strategy", a blueprint for ICT development.

Now in its second year, the Hong Kong ICT Awards aim to recognise and promote the outstanding achievements of local ICT professionals and organisations.

The awards comprise seven categories, with one Grand Award in each category chosen by separate judging panels. The Award of the Year was selected from the seven Grand Award winners by a Grand Judging Panel.  The Grand Award winners and their entries are:
