Secretary for Security encourages young abusers to quit drugs (with photos)
********************************************************

The Secretary for Security, Mr Ambrose S K Lee, today (January 21) encouraged young abusers to quit drugs and assured them they would have the support of the community and the Government.

His words of encouragement came when he chatted with social workers and a group of rehabilitated young drug abusers during a visit to the Yang Memorial Methodist Social Service Kowloon City District Youth Outreaching Social Service Centre in Kowloon City District.

Mr Lee asked the rehabilitated abusers to enlighten young drug abusers with their success stories about quitting.

Mr Lee said that addiction treatment was not a painless process and it required great determination and perseverance. But he said the difficulties were not insurmountable and many abusers had succeeded in quitting drugs.

He was impressed by frontline social workers' devotion to helping young drug abusers get back on the right track.

The outreach centre provides a variety of services to young people such as school social work and day and night outreaching social services.

Mr Lee also visited a car park in Chung Hau Street for a briefing by students from the SKH Tsoi Kung Po Secondary School on their research project to improve the security of local car parks. The project, an entry in a district fight crime research studies competition under the Police School Liaison Scheme and the Junior Police Call School Club, is aimed at identifying security loopholes and putting forward suggestions to car park management to reduce car park crimes.

Mr Lee wrapped up his visit by meeting the Kowloon City District Council chairman Mr Wong Kwok Keung, vice-chairman Mr Lau Wai Wing and other members to listen to their views on local issues.

He was accompanied on the visit by the Kowloon City District Officer, Miss Agnes Wong.
