Seven employers ordered to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (January 18) pursued seven claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $190,000 on behalf of 79 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the tribunal's hearing today, the four defendants, Multi Tone Hong Kong Development Limited trading as Man Ho Seafood Restaurant, Chan Hiu Fung trading as Lee Chung Furniture Mfy Fty, Chiu Wing Hing and Chan Yiu Ming trading as Multi Graphic Co, and Show Security Home Property Management Shares Company Ltd, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $47,617.58, $19,320, $15,619.6 and $14,478.39, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other three defendants, Wong Sze Kwong trading as Tong Li Car Service, Wing Cheong Dispensary Limited and Greenfeel Vegetarian Restaurant Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of  $45,792.88, $42,187.5 and $6,783, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $246, $110, $180, $170, $170, $140 and $136 as the costs in respect of the claims.

     Greenfeel Vegetarian Restaurant Limited pleaded guilty previously at Kwun Tong Magistracy to one count of failing to enroll its employee in an MPF scheme and was fined $8,000.
