The Inner Mongolia National Song and Dance Opera Troupe will perform Mongolian folk dances in "The Grassland, Our Heaven", to be held in March.
The performances will give a glimpse of the life of the Mongolian people through traditional folk dances, including the Daur dance "Lu Ri Ge Le", the Mongolian dance "An Da" (the dance of good wishes) and the wrestling dance "Bokh".
In addition to folk dances, members of the troupe will also play the "horse-head fiddle" (matouqin), a Mongolian bowed string instrument with a history of more than 1,300 years, and sing in the unique "Long Tune" style. The dances and music are all on the Mainland's first list of "National Intangible Cultural Heritage".
Hailed as the "the first troupe of the autonomous region" and "proud eagle of the grassland", the Inner Mongolia National Song and Dance Opera Troupe is the largest professional performing arts group in the Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region. Its 400 members come from the Mongolian, Han, Daur, Ewenke, Elunchun and Man tribes, and more than 160 of them are national class one and two performers. The troupe has toured all parts of the Mainland and over 20 countries in Asia, Europe, Africa and North America, earning critical and popular acclaim.
Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "The Grassland, Our Heaven" will be held at 8pm on Friday, March 7, at the Theatre, Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre; at 8pm on Saturday, March 8, at the Theatre, Ko Shan Theatre, and at 8pm on Sunday, March 9, at the Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall.
Tickets priced at $90, $130 and $160 are now available at URBTIX outlets. Senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients may have 50% off (limited quotas for students and CSSA recipients on a first-come, first-served basis). A 10% discount applies to a combined purchase of tickets to the concert with tickets to another programme, "Happiness and Joy" (January 31 and February 1).
