A man was sentenced by Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts today (January 11) to one month's imprisonment for assaulting a public officer.
A Food and Environmental Hygiene Department officer was attacked and injured by the man while carrying out an operation against illegal hawking and shop extension in Shek Yam Road, Kwai Chung, on July 11 last year.
The man was also fined a total of $800 for hawking without a licence, sale of restricted food without a permit, and causing obstruction in a public place.
"Use of violence against public officers is not only wrong, but also carries legal consequences," a department spokesman said.
¡@¡@He urged the public to co-operate with law enforcement officers in the execution of their duties.
