More than 100 pieces of ink-painting and Chinese calligraphy, created by 22 graduating students of the Art Specialist Course 2007-08, will go on display at the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre from tomorrow (January 11) until January 21.
The exhibition was opened today (January 10) by Adviser of Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Professor Mok Kar-leung, and course co-ordinators Mr Leung Kui-ting (ink-painting) and Mr Tsang Kwong-choi (Chinese Calligraphy).
The "Art Specialist Course Graduation Exhibition 2007-08", featuring artworks in two-dimensional, three-dimensional, and installation, not only reveals individual artistic styles of the students, but also expresses the modernity of Chinese calligraphy and ink-painting.
Organised by the Art Promotion Office, the Art Specialist Course, which started in 2002, aims to provide holistic learning and practising opportunities for art lovers, who like to develop their individual artistic directions for the future pursuits.
Under the mentoring of professional artists and teaching by renowned and experienced guest instructors, students are able to gain an in-depth understanding of the local art scene, consolidate their arts skills and enhance their knowledge of visual arts for future artistic pursuits during the nine-month course.
Ink-painting and Chinese calligraphy are important genres of Chinese art. In the present day, these two disciplines are no longer restricted to the traditional framework of art, but can be expressed in various forms, methods, and materials. To enhance the connection between tradition and creativity, the course organised a number of specialised workshops, outside visits, lectures, and tutorials combined with theories and practices to enable students to build their very own artistic styles.
