Appointments to the Business Facilitation Advisory Committee

    The Government today (January 10) announced the re-appointment and appointment of 20 non-official members to the Business Facilitation Advisory Committee for a new term ending December 31, 2009 :

     The committee will continue to be chaired by Mr Anthony Nightingale with Legislative Councillor Ms Emily Lau as deputy chairman in the new term.

     Established in January 2006, the committee is tasked to advise and report to the Financial Secretary the development and implementation of programmes and measures to facilitate business.  The committee provides steering for the work of four task forces - Pre-construction Task Force, Town Planning Task Force, Retail Task Force and Food Business Task Force - in taking forward regulatory reviews or other business facilitation initiatives.    

     Over the past two years, the committee has completed a number of major regulatory reviews which help streamline the business licensing processes and reduce compliance costs to business.  The Government is confident that the committee will continue to help make Hong Kong a good place to do business.  

     The Financial Secretary thanked the retiring non-official members of the committee, including Mr Andrew Brandler, Professor Stephen Cheung, Mr Gary Fan, Mr Thomas Kwok and Mr Roger Li, for their invaluable contribution to the work of the committee and its task forces over the past two years.
