The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in December last year showed a decrease of 0.3% (931 cases) over November, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released by the Social Welfare Department today (January 9).
Total CSSA caseload at the end of December stood at 288,145 (see attached table), with a total of 496,922 recipients.
Analysed by case nature, unemployment cases showed a continued decrease of 1.5% in December to 32,893.
Single parent cases registered a month-to-month decrease of 0.6% in December to 37,036.
Low earning cases showed a month-to-month decrease of 0.9% to stand at 17,221.
Total government expenditure on CSSA payments was about $17.6 billion for 2006-07.
