The Correctional Services Department (CSD) is committed to maintaining a drug-free environment for all persons in its custody, a spokesperson for the department said today (January 8).
Every measure is taken by the CSD to prevent the smuggling of dangerous drugs into, and to eradicate their presence in, correctional institutions, she said.
The spokesperson's comments followed a case of suspected dangerous drugs seized by CSD officers.
Acting on intelligence, CSD officers conducted a special search inside a workshop at Pak Sha Wan Correctional Institution (PSWCI). A small packet of suspected dangerous drugs was seized from a conduit inside the workshop during the operation.
The case has been reported to the Police.
The spokesperson said the total number of seizures of dangerous drugs in 2007 was 102, with the seizures mainly in the reception centres.
