Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts today (January 4) ordered a man who assaulted a public officer to perform 80 hours of community service.
The man, who spat on the pavement of Kowloon City Road on September 25 last year, refused to co-operate and assaulted a Food and Environmental Hygiene Department officer when the officer took prosecution action. The man was fined $1,000 for spitting in a public place, and ordered to perform 80 hours of community service for assaulting a public officer.
"Use of force against public officers is not only wrong, but also carries serious legal consequences," a department spokesman warned.
"People should co-operate with law enforcement officers in the execution of their duties."
