Appointments to Independent Police Complaints Council

    The Government today (December 28) announced the appointment of two new members and the re-appointment of two incumbent members to the Independent Police Complaints Council (IPCC).

     The appointments and re-appointments are from January 1, 2008, to December 31, 2009.

     The new members are Mr Clement Tao Kwok-lau and Ms Emily Cheung Mui-seung.

     The re-appointed members are Dr Michael Tsui Fuk-sun and Mrs Helena Yuen Chan Suk-yee.

     The appointments are published in the Government Gazette today (December 28).

     The IPCC is an independent civilian body responsible for monitoring and reviewing the investigation of complaints against the Police.  The current chairman is Mr Ronny Wong Fook-hum.

     "The IPCC plays an important role in ensuring public confidence in the Police complaints system," a government spokesman said. "We are grateful to the council for its hard work and wise counsel, and look forward to continuing to benefit from its advice."

     The Government thanked the two outgoing members, Mr Daniel Cham Ka-hung and Dr Charles Koo Ming-yan, for their valuable contribution to the work of the IPCC over the years.
