Common Buzzard tests positive for H5N1 virus
********************************************

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department said today (December 21) that the Common Buzzard found earlier on Lantau Island was confirmed to be H5N1 positive after a series of laboratory tests.

The bird carcass was found and collected on December 17 at Sha Lo Wan, Lantau Island. The Common Buzzard is a common winter visitor to Hong Kong.

A department spokesman reminded people to observe good personal hygiene.

"They should avoid personal contact with wild birds or live poultry and clean their hands thoroughly after coming into contact with them," he said.
