Senior appointments in Police Force

Approval has been given for the appointment of Mr Tsang Wai-hung as Deputy Commissioner of Police with effect from January 7, 2008, upon the retirement of Deputy Commissioner (Management), Mr Fung Siu-yuen on the same date.

Commenting on the appointment of Mr Tsang as Deputy Commissioner (Management), the Commissioner of Police, Mr Tang King-shing, expressed full confidence in Mr Tsang in his new role. "With nearly 30 years of service, Mr Tsang possesses an extensive knowledge of the operations and management of the Hong Kong Police Force. He is eminently qualified to discharge his responsibilities as a Deputy Commissioner of Police. "

Speaking on the retirement of Mr Fung Siu-yuen, the Commissioner praised the contributions Mr Fung had made towards the policing of Hong Kong.  "In over 35 years of service in the Force, Mr Fung has filled a number of key posts and undertaken a wide range of onerous and demanding duties in Crime Wing and, since 2002, as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Management). His outstanding achievements have contributed significantly to the maintenance of law and order in Hong Kong and the well being of the Force."

Three other senior promotions were also announced. Mr Koo Sii-hong will be promoted to Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police, while Mr Austin Kerrigan and Mr Suen Kwai-leung will be promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police.  

Brief biographical notes on Mr Tsang Wai-hung are set out below:

Mr Tsang, 49 years old, joined the Hong Kong Police as an Inspector in 1978. He was promoted to Superintendent in 1989, Chief Superintendent in 1998, Assistant Commissioner in 2003 and Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police in 2005. He is currently the Director of Operations.  Mr Tsang has worked in a variety of fields in the Force.
