The young musicians of the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra will present its annual concert with guest performing groups, the Hong Kong Youth Symphonic Band and the Hong Kong Junior Chamber Ensemble, at the Concert Hall of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre at 3pm on December 9 (Sunday).
Trained by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, some 200 musicians will show their musical talent at the concert.
Under the baton of Music Office instructors Ng Ka-ming and Pak Wing-heng, the young musicians will perform a number of works, including Reed¡¦s ¡§A Festival Prelude¡¨, Verdi¡¦s ¡§Grand March from Aida¡¨, Villa-Lobos¡¦ ¡§Fantasia for Saxophone¡¨, the first movement of Beethoven¡¦s ¡§Concerto for Violin, Cello, and Piano in C Major, Op. 56¡¨, Glinka¡¦s ¡§Overture to Ruslan and Ludmilla¡¨ and Sibelius¡¦ ¡§Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 43¡¨.
The soloists in the concert will be Joseph Kam (violin), William Tsui (cello), Lai Wing-yan (piano) and Kevin Ling (saxophone).
Since its establishment in 1978, the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra has been providing orchestral training for young musicians to an advanced level. Over the years, many members of the orchestra have become eminent professional musicians in Hong Kong.
The orchestra has collaborated with many conductors and soloists of international acclaim. As a music ambassador of Hong Kong, the orchestra has completed successful concert tours to France, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Mainland China, Israel, Cyprus and Singapore. These tours not only facilitate international cultural exchange, but also help refine young musicians¡¦ musical techniques and broaden their vision.
Tickets priced at $60 and $40 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-priced concessions are available to senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients.
