The Fight Crime Committee Report No 26, which gives a detailed account of the committee's work in 2006, was released today (November 30).
During the year, the committee examined a number of issues, including the overall crime situation and commercial crimes; progress reports on the Police Superintendents' Discretion Scheme; the fight crime publicity campaign strategies, and the Correctional Services Department's publicity activities on the reintegration of rehabilitated offenders.
The committee revisited the anti-drug policy and ways to tackle the youth drug abuse problem. It also examined the management as well as the risks and needs evaluation of offenders.
The report carries a follow-up report by the bureaus/departments concerned on the major issues raised at the 2006 Fight Crime Conference. It also covers the liaison and co-operation between the committee and the District Fight Crime Committees, as well as the work of the two sub-committees under the Fight Crime Committee - the Standing Committee on Young Offenders and the Publicity Sub-Committee.
Chaired by the Chief Secretary for Administration, the Fight Crime Committee comprises seven other senior government officials and eight non-official members. It is responsible for drawing up plans to reduce crime, co-ordinating efforts in fighting crime, monitoring the results and finding ways to encourage the public to contribute to crime reduction.
The report is now available at all District Offices of the Home Affairs Department. It has also been uploaded onto the Security Bureau's website at www.info.gov.hk/sb/.
