Sand sculpture is not only a favourite pastime for families, but also can turn sand into masterpieces.
The Sai Kung Sand Sculpture Competition 2007, organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department at Clear Water Bay Second Beach from 10am to 2pm this Sunday (December 2), will provide this opportunity. Participants will be able to demonstrate their creativity and share their experiences with each other. All are welcome to appreciate these amazing sculptures while relaxing at the beach.
Each team participating in the competition may decide the theme of its sculptures and is required to finish its work in an area of three metres by four and a half metres within one hour and 45 minutes. Participants can create their sculptures with spades, buckets and ornaments such as shells and aluminium cans that will not harm the environment.
A total of 37 teams will participate in the competition: 18 teams in the youth division, eight in the family division, eight in the disabled division and three in the open division.
Prizes will be awarded to the winner, first runner-up and second runner-up of each division. All teams will also vie for the overall championship. Judging will be based on skills, creativity, relevance to the themes and aesthetics.
People may enter the sand sculptors' working areas for photo-taking after the panel adjudication.
A fun fair with performances will be staged at the beach for visitors to enjoy.
